Gala lauds DMT Sponsored Program for Challenged Youth

February 2013 - Dare Mighty Things team members joined supporters from all over the country, on February 26, 2013, as the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program celebrated 20 years of success at the eighth annual ChalleNGe Champions Gala held at the JW Marriott ballroom in Washington, DC. Sponsored by the National Guard Youth Foundation, this year's Gala was particularly joyful, as it featured ChalleNGe alumni spanning two decades who have gone on to be successful citizens and leaders, attributing their success to the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe program. The audience or more than 1000 attendees were enthralled, hearing compelling stories of lives changed as a direct result of ChalleNGe programs throughout the country.

This celebration was particularly significant for DMT as well, as DMT has been a partner with Youth ChalleNGe since its inception in 1993, first engaging in developing a mentor model and mentor training. Over the ensuing twenty years, DMT has grown along with CHalleNGe, helping grow the premier intervention program from ten pilot locations to a national program of 34 sites in 28 states and territories. Recognizing the need for replicable results nationwide, the National Guard Bureau has counted on DMT for training, technical assistance, benchmarking, a national web clearinghouse, doctrine development and more. In 2004, DMT opened the National ChalleNGe Institute in Portsmouth, NH, dedicated to serving more than 2000 ChalleNGe staff members nationwide; DMT continues its commitment to this training to this day.

As a corporate sponsor, Dare Mighty Things, Inc. President and CEO David Van Patten hosted Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Resources), Office of the Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, Mr. John Hastings and New Hampshire Adjutant General, Maj. Gen William Reddel, III and most importantly, a 17 year old Cadet from the Mountaineer West Virginia ChalleNGe Academy. In the words of this young man, ChalleNGe was a doorway to the life he wanted to lead and he was already grateful for the opportunity to go from high school drop-out to high achiever. The Gala featured also featured performances by supporters of ChalleNGe, LeeAnn Rimes and Dale Earnhardt Jr, as well as other celebrities, members of Congress and the Senate, Governors, senior National Guard and military members, corporate and community leaders, ChalleNGe Program Directors and Cadets.
