The New Hampshire Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced that Dare Mighty Things, Inc. and Dave Van Patten have been honored with the Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support to employee, and Rye resident, Captain Thomas Pufki, who serves in the New Hampshire Army National Guard.

The award, presented to company President and CEO, Dave Van Patten by NH ESGR committee member, Ted Kehr, and Pufki as the nominating officer, recognizes the supervisors and bosses nominated by a Guardsman or Reservist employee for support provided directly to them.

“The Patriot Award, explained Kehr, ‘ was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve.

Dare Mighty Things honored with the Patriot AwardIn his presentation Captain Pufki stated: “In the interview process, when I was being hired by DMT, I made clear that I had substantial commitments to the New Hampshire Army National Guard as a current Company Commander. From April to December of 2012, approximately 187 potential working days, DMT afforded me 42 full days off. I was on active training for six weeks over an eight week period. DMT provided me these days off to attend a critical career training school. They also supported two annual trainings during 2012. During these weeks of training, DMT fully supported my absence at no penalty to my position, pay or benefits.’

Pufki commended both Van Patten and the full staff at Dare Mighty Things, saying that during his job search he met with a number of employers who disqualified him when he disclosed his ESGR commitments, noting that such employer support is hard to find.

Dare Mighty Things, Inc. (DMT), a Portsmouth-based, veteran-owned business, founded by Van Patten in 1991, assists clients in launching social ventures that impact high risk populations.
