September 2011 – A valuable new training resource for mentors is now available to the public on the The Center for the Advancement of Mentoring (TCAM) website. Dare Mighty Things (DMT) developed the TCAM Online Training Series for Mentors and Mentoring Program Staff, which includes six online training modules for mentors intended to be used in combination with in-person mentor training provided by mentoring programs, as well as two online modules for mentoring program staff about designing and delivering in-person mentor training.
The content of the training series is informed by mentoring research and best practice, the expertise of the TCAM Leadership Team, and TCAM’s experience providing technical assistance to OJJDP mentoring grantees. Each module is designed to be completed in approximately 30 minutes, and individuals may opt to complete one or more of the six modules.
This effort to help support mentor training at hundreds of mentoring programs was made possible by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). In 2009 and 2010, OJJDP awarded grants to more than 100 programs to focus mentoring efforts on reducing juvenile delinquency. To support mentoring programs, the agency established TCAM as a central point for resources, training opportunities, and consultation to grantees. The Center for the Advancement of Mentoring is run through a partnership between Dare Mighty Things, Inc. and the Education Development Center (EDC).
The team at DMT is excited that this valuable resource is now available to the public. All organizations with mentoring programs are encouraged to access the resources at http://advancementoring.org/online-training.
